Solar panel simulations are used to verify that you are getting the expected power output under specific conditions. This can help determine if the panel is being used close to its maximum power point under all conditions. You can model the solar panel as individual solar cells to help determine the power response when each of the cells are receiving a different amount of light. This can be accomplished by modeling the different cells as 4 component elements. The output of a solar cell simulation is the voltage and current for a specific load under a specific set of environmental conditions. The IV equation for solar panels is highly nonlinear. Models of solar panels should have irradiance and temperature as their input variables.
