The S1G reactor used uranium dioxide clad in stainless steel. Beryllium was used as a moderator and reflector. The reactor fuel could reach a temperature of 1700F. The maximum sheath temperature was 900F. The reactor had a cycle time of 900 days and required heavy shielding. The higher fuel and steam temperatures allow for better thermal efficiency. This was a sodium-cooled reactor.
