Hotel Loads

Hotel Loads refer to everything else on submarines that take up power. Sonar and communications are the major components of Hotel Loads. Computer rooms on submarines need to be environmentally controlled. Life support controls and machinery also contribute to these loads. An example hotel load for a diesel-electric submarine might be around 100kW. Hotel loads include lights, C02 scrubbing, washing, cooking, heating, and electronics. Hotel loads do not have any bearing on reactor power for nuclear submarines as they are dwarfed by the power required for maximum speed. Hotel loads can be classified by their voltage levels: low voltage, and high voltage.[^3] Hotel loads are powered from DC/DC converter.[^3] Phase shift full-bridge converters can be used in these applications.[^3]
